Public Speaking: America’s #1 Fear

Public Speaking is the most shared fear in America, and probably the entire world, whereas death only ranks at number four in terms of top fears.  Research suggests that fear of public speaking stems from low self confidence, the fear of rejection, and the possibility of ruining self-image.  The reason this may be such a big concern is because as humans, we are social beings (see my post on Why Long-Term Solitary Confinement is Torture), and worry about damaging social ties to other humans.
